Misklectic (Samantha Sommariva) is a multi-award winning artist and maker. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Art, Honours, making the Vice Chancellor’s list of academic excellence for 2016. Her multi-disciplinary practice includes sculpture, installation, lighting, and video, bringing traditional methods of art-making into the contemporary. Misklectic’s artworks are haunting, intricate in form and rich in colour; encapsulating in its totality, the beauty, darkness and pathos of contemporary society and environmental and social topics of the moment.
Misklectic has been the recipient of several awards, grants and residencies, including: Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture, Finalist (2020), Agendo Art Prize, Finalist (2019), Footscray Art Prize, Finalist (2019), ACMD Award, Finalist (2019) Bruny Island Art Prize, Finalist (2018), Digital Portrait Award, Finalist (2017), Burrinja Climate Change Biennale, Recipient of the Young Artist Award (2017), The Shirl National Youth Portrait Award, Award Recipient (2017) Studio Start-up Residency Program, Abbotsford Convent Foundation (2017), Creative Victoria Grant Recipient (2017), Hatched, National Graduate Show, Finalist (2016). She has also had works collected privately and commercially, including the National Portrait Gallery of Australia and Bega Valley Regional Gallery.
